In France or Prague

The morning light is stern
Though I toss and turn
It grants me no relief
I wake in disbelief
Who thought, who'd know
That the seven a.m. glow
That lights the urban streets
Could be so free of heat?
He's been on my mind
A memory bright and kind
Twinkling fuzzy warm
All throughout my dorm
He said to me
In drunken revery
By the front porch light
On a speckled night:
I don't like the stars
Or Polar Pops or cars
But I love the moon
Though it leaves to soon
I coat my teeth and skin
With pastes and creams again
I scarf down processed wheat
Make sure my hair is neat
I am not late
But I will not wait
The soles of my shoes tell me
That there's no time to lose
Another lifeless day
I'll slave for meager pay
To waste my youth for free
I wonder if he's still thinking of me
I pull into work
My porchlit nighttime shirked
Replaced by mauve and grey
I wish I was away
In France or Prague
I'd sleep like a log
I would caw and crow
While my love lays and lows
